2) Yankees roster will not have Jonathan Loaisiga by September 1

The Yankees bullpen has been pretty masterful this year, even with injuries. By September 1, they may need to make a big decision or two.

Aroldis Chapman would definitely be one player fans would like to see exit from the roster. The chances of the Yankees designating him for assignment will only grow as he continues to lose the faith of the front office and the fans. But it’s not him who will be gone. It’s Jonathan Loaisiga.

Once again, it will come down to minor league options. The Yankees can still demote Loaisiga to the minors to clear room for someone else. He hasn’t been particularly strong for them this season. The Yankees might be wise to try someone else out instead.

In the late part of the season when minor league campaigns are wrapping up, it’s not so unreasonable for major league clubs to even promote starters for bullpen help. The Yankees will have a few more options they can go with over Loasigia, a reliever they were hoping would perform far better in 2022.

New York hasn’t gotten much more from other arms this season. Someone like Clarke Schmidt would be far more deserving of the roster spot than Loaisiga. An injury, of course, could change every roster plan the Yankees have.
