Steve Cohen has hilarious response to Mets fan’s love for Edwin Diaz

One New York Mets fan wants the team to sign closer Edwin Diaz for life. Owner Steve Cohen had a hilarious response to the request.
The New York Mets have had plenty of contributors that helped the team hold first place in the NL East for the majority of the 2022 season. But the one consistent player has been closer Edwin Diaz, who has been lights out for the team. He proved just that in a pivotal game against a division rival.
On Thursday night, Diaz entered in the eighth inning against the Atlanta Braves, and managed to get the six necessary outs to give New York the 6-4 win.
One Mets fan decided to seek out team owner Steve Cohen to give him a suggestion, which was to sign Diaz for life. Cohen responded, joking that since Diaz is only 28 years old, signing him for life will be too expensive.

It may not be for life, but Diaz is going to command quite the hefty contract this upcoming offseason if he keeps it up.
Diaz got out of the eighth inning with relative ease, as he forced Dansby Swanson to ground out while striking out Matt Olson and Austin Riley in succession. The ninth inning was a bit of a challenge, as he surrendered a single to Eddie Rosario immediately. He forced Travis d’Arnaud to fly out but threw a wild pitch that allowed Rosario to advance to second base during the Marcell Ozuna at-bat. Even so, Diaz struck out Ozuna and forced Orlando Arcia to ground out to end the game.
This season, Diaz now carries a 1.44 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP through 43 games. He has now recorded 24 saves in 27 opportunities.
There have to be plenty of Mets fans who want Diaz to re-sign with the team. Of course, it will remain to be seen if that will be the case during the Hot Stove season.
