LSU football has been in the mix of WRU, and Brian Kelly is looking to ensure that the moniker remains in the Bayou after his latest commitment.
Recently, LSU football has produced several high-quality wide receivers, going a long way in earning the distinction of WRU. New Tigers head coach Brian Kelly is hoping to keep it that way.
On Saturday, the Tigers picked up a commitment from 5-star receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. The Baton Rouge native is choosing to stay home after fielding offers from multiple schools, including Alabama, Florida State, and Texas A&M.

Nonetheless, this is about Kelly looking to ensure that LSU retains the name of WRU, and by having Sampson in the fold, it seems more and more like it. At 6-foot-4, 181 pounds, he possesses a tall frame and exceptional ball skills that can allow the Tigers offense to execute.
LSU football: Brian Kelly keeps WRU alive with Shelton Sampson Jr. commitment
Ranked No. 33 in the 247Sports Composite, Sampson Jr. joins Jalen Brown as part of a high-profile duo that will look to keep LSU’s offense among the top in the nation and retain their WRU status. The good news is that LSU not only kept a hometown star, but they also knew just how good he could be.
Last season, as a junior, Sampson had 40 catches for 932 yards and eight touchdowns. With another year to go, it is possible that he could eclipse that mark and come to school with more experience under his belt and likely make an impact right away.
LSU has a tradition, and Brian Kelly is looking to keep it that way and even enhance it while he’s in town. He got Jalen Brown, and now with the addition of Shelton Sampson Jr., everything seems to be going according to plan, at least in terms of keeping WRU in the Bayou.
