2. Jaylin Davis should be getting playing time over Red Sox CF Jarren Duran.

At this point, the Boston Red Sox might be better off with Jaylin Davis receiving playing time over Jarren Duran. The former 24th-round draft pick, who’s already been yo-yo’d between the majors and Triple-A this season, has put up some fine numbers in limited playing time.

Davis may be more of a tweener (a player who’s skill-level ultimately falls between Triple-A and the major leagues), but in his limited playing time has produced results. Davis has an OPS of .835, but has only had 20 at-bats in 2022.

Davis was part of the Red Sox roster in late-April after being claimed off waivers from San Francisco. When rosters were contracted, Davis was designated for assignment and outrighted to Boston’s Triple-A affiliate.

Davis was recalled in late-July after third baseman Rafael Devers was placed on the Injured List. Playing Davis over Jarren Duran would be more about trying to compete for a Wild Card spot this season. If the Red Sox see themselves as playoff contenders, their best outfield could be comprised of Tommy Pham, Alex Verdugo, and Jaylin Davis.
