Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has always been one to face challenges head-on and stand out among a talented team. Now, he’s requesting a major challenge that shows why he’s had so much success.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Freeman has been clear that the first baseman wants to start every game until the Dodgers clinch the NL West.

Los Angeles is in a great spot so far this season, and there’s a strong possibility that Freeman will get his time to rest sooner rather than later.

The Dodgers sit very comfortably at the top of the NL West standings as they entered Wednesday’s game against the Twins with a 16-game lead over the Padres in the division.

Los Angeles is one of the most well-rounded teams in MLB. They have great hitters and currently have the third-best league batting average (.261), best on-base percentage (.336), best slugging percentage (.448) and best OPS (.784). They’ve produced the second-most runs (581) and seventh-most home runs (140).

They’re just as good with their pitching staff. They have the best ERA (2.87), second-best opponent batting average (.215) and best WHIP (1.06).

Freeman is a major contributor to their success. The veteran is hitting .325/.401/.525 for an OPS of .926 this season, his first with the Dodgers after he helped the Braves capture the franchise’s first World Series since 1995 last year.
