MLB has officially announced disappointing news. They won’t be bringing the Field of Dreams game back to Dyersville in 2023.

Former MLB first baseman and current Field of Dreams owner Frank Thomas announced the Field of Dreams game won’t be coming back to Dyersville, IA in 2023 due to site construction. The actual Field of Dreams site will also never be the original after construction is complete.

The game is a new tradition that started in 2021 with the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.

The game is nostalgic for many fans of the original Field of Dreams movie and is highly anticipated since MLB first held the game.

Though it’s disappointing there likely won’t be a game in 2023 and if there is, it certainly won’t be at the movie site, the 2022 game is still expected to happen with some unique twists.

2022 MLB Field of Dreams game will still make memories

The 2022 MLB Field of Dreams game will be one to watch, especially now considering it’ll be the last game at the original movie site before construction.

This season’s game will be the Cincinnati Reds vs the Chicago Cubs, and two players are expected to be mic’d up to bring an exciting twist to the game. Cubs outfielder Ian Happ and Reds first baseman Joey Votto will be mic’d during the game.

Happ and Votto are both playing well on their respective teams. Happ is hitting .276/.355/.430 for an OPS of .785. Votto is hitting .219/.336/.395 for an OPS of .731.

This year’s game will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 7:15 p.m. ET.
