3. The Cardinals should be playing in the Field of Dreams Game.

Of all the teams that could be playing in the Field of Dreams Game this season, it feels like it should be the St. Louis Cardinals. Much like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves, the Cards are one of the older franchises in the sport. But more than that, their roster has two future Hall of Famers who are likely riding off into the sunset after this season.

Again, just like there was no way for Major League Baseball to know that the Cincinnati Reds were going to trade away nearly half their roster, they couldn’t have known that a reunion between Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals was on the horizon.

But here we are, and it appears as though Pujols and Yadier Molina will be hanging up their cleats after the 2022 season. But not before the duo makes one last run at the postseason. The St. Louis Cardinals actually lead the NL Central by one game over the Milwaukee Brewers and have played very well since the All-Star break.

Seeing Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, and Adam Wainwright emerge from the corn stalks prior to the first pitch would have been must-see TV. And unfortunately, that’s a scene that MLB won’t be able to correct.

Still, while the Reds and Cubs are nowhere near the top of the standings, the pomp and pageantry set to be displayed tonight in Iowa will be something that few baseball will be able to miss. Sure, fans would love to see a better matchup of two teams with playoff implications at stake, but the nostalgic feelings that are sure to emerge will offer enough intrigue to tune in.
