Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian announced on Friday Agiye Hall isĀ suspended indefinitely.
Former Alabama wide receiver Agiye Hall has been suspended indefinitely by the Texas football program after being arrested on Thursday night in Austin on charges of criminal mischief.
Hall was a former four-star recruit by the Crimson Tide before transferring to Texas after one season in Tuscaloosa. Immensely talented, but often troubled, Hall has had a hard time staying on the field. With many former Alabama players transferring to Texas to reunite with their former offensive coordinator, head coach Steve Sarkisian cannot be thrilled about Hall being arrestedā¦
"āWeāre aware of the situation involving Agiye Hall, have talked with his family, and have suspended him indefinitely from all team activities for conduct that is detrimental to our program,ā said Sarkisian in a statement Friday."
Texas went a disastrous 5-7 in Sarkisianās first season at the helm of this Big 12 football program.
The Longhorns will have to play the juggernaut Crimson Tide in early September this season, too.
Texas football: Former Alabama wide receiver Agiye Hall suspended indefinitely
Hall was arrested shortly after 9:00 p.m. CT on Thursday night in Travis County. He faces a Class B misdemeanor charge, based on property damages between $150 and $750. Prior to arriving at Texas, his former head coach Nick Saban suspended Hall back in April. The reasons for Saban suspending him were never fully specified, but Hall did decide to transfer after one only season.
Even if Hall does not contribute much in his first season, if any, at Texas, it is imperative for things to go infinitely better for Sarkisian in year two on the job. No, Texas does not have to win the Big 12 or even get to the conference championship game. However, this team needs to not only get to a bowl game, but it needs to be around an 8-4 squad. They have to show signs of stability quickly.
While the Longhorns have crushed it in recruiting of late, things can change in an instant if their performance on the field is not on the upswing. This is not about winning the Big 12 anymore, but something way bigger. Texas is joining the SEC alongside arch-rival Oklahoma in a few years. If the Longhorns are not ready to play up, then they are going to get steamrolled inside their new league.
Hall being suspended indefinitely does not breathe into life a ton of confidence surrounding Texas.
