Browns suffer devastating injury on first drive of the preseason
On the Cleveland Browns’ first drive of the 2022 preseason, the offense suffered a devastating injury as starting center Nick Harris was carted off the field.
All eyes for the Cleveland Browns‘ preseason opener on Friday night against the Jaguars were on Deshaun Watson as the controversial quarterback got the start for the team. However, there were also numerous other starters for the team that took the field in Jacksonville and that could end up being a costly decision.
On the first drive of the game, projected starting center Nick Harris got put in a bad spot and ended up on the turf clearly in a ton of pain.
He remained on the ground for quite a while and, unfortunately, had to be carted off the field.
Nick Harris injury: Browns center carted off in preseason opener
Harris was slated to take over as the starting center on Cleveland’s stellar offensive line after the offseason departure of veteran JC Tretter. The former fifth-round pick out of Washington had impressed the coaching staff in recent seasons and appeared ready for the huge role in the offense. That makes this all the more painful to see.
While we don’t have details as to the extent of Harris’ injury, it didn’t look good and the fact that he was carted off is not a good sign.
The backup on the roster is former Seahawks lineman Ethan Pocic, who had an up-and-down career in Seattle. However, it’s worth noting that Tretter remains a free agent at this point, so there is now the possibility of Cleveland looking to bring him back in the fold.
