Packers who earned a roster spot: Jack Heflin
Will the Packers keep around a sixth interior defensive lineman? That’s really the question here.
If they do, then Heflin has a real chance. So, I’m going out on a limb to say that interior defensive line depth is important enough to them.
Heflin should at least make the practice squad. He’s 24 years old, has potential, and graded out really well with PFF against the 49ers. Add in the fact that his competition on the defensive line struggled mightily…and you can understand why the Pack might want to keep Heflin around, especially since he played sparingly last year and at least knows the system.
The following, per Packers Wire, sums it up well enough:
"“Slaton and Jack Heflin graded out well, but their competition along the defensive line struggled, per PFF. Run defense was a big issue across the board. Gafford was charged with giving up a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ray-Ray McCloud.”"
Anytime you give up a touchdown pass to Ray-Ray McCloud, you know it’s been a long night. But anyway — Heflin was able to create some interior pressure, which the Packers defense could always use given their secondary is questionable at time.
