St Louis Cardinals

The Cards catching situation is just fine…for now.

Yadier Molina and Andrew Knizer make for a solid duo, especially considering just how reliable Yadi is defensively.

St. Louis wouldn’t have dared acquired Contreras at the trade deadline for obvious reasons. First, that would include dealing some top prospects to the Cubs, which never works out in their favor. Second, it might anger the likes of Molina, a player who has devoted his entire his entire career to the Cardinals.

The Cards’ biggest trade deadline need was pitching, and they addressed that in moved for Jordan Montgomery and Jose Quintana. Molina gives them a veteran catcher, which makes for an excellent battery come playoff time.

Contreras, though, could be available in free agency this winter. Expect the Cardinals front office to make a pitch when the time comes.
