17. QB Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs moved up in the 2017 NFL Draft to snare a strong-armed prospect. After playing in only one game his rookie season, Patrick Mahomes has been pretty much lights out. The 2018 NFL MVP has thrown for 151 scores (37 INTs) the past four seasons and helped Andy Reid’s club host the last four AFC title games.

Mahomes has never known what it’s like to be on an NFL team that didn’t reach the postseason. Granted, he was the backup quarterback as a rookie in 2017 when Andy Reid’s club failed to protect an 18-point lead at home and lost to the Tennessee Titans in the wild card round. Sound familiar? The Bengals rallied from that same deficit in the 2021 AFC title game at Arrowhead Stadium.

That’s a topic for another time. Then again, this past season did prove to be a bit unsettling for the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. And the Chiefs were wise enough to move up in the draft to grab the talented product from Texas Tech. But Mahomes does come off a season in which he threw for 37 scores, as well as a career-high 13 interceptions while losing four of his nine fumbles. Of course, the strong-armed performer is just getting warmed up.
