The Chicago White Sox have found their new manager…sort of.

The Chicago White Sox needed a wild eighth inning to top the American League’s best team on Monday night. The White Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the frame and upended the Houston Astros by a score of 4-2.

Tony La Russa, who’s been mired in controversy all season, may have a new bench coach after last night’s festivities. A fan sitting in the second row near the White Sox bench was seen yelling at the Chicago dugout. The fan implored La Russa to “run Engel” and the manager obliged.

White Sox fans prove they can manage better than Tony La Russa.

The Chicago White Sox, who are in a dogfight with the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central, were down 2-0 in the eighth inning. Both Gavin Sheets and Leury Garcia did nothing to help the White Sox cause after both lined out to begin the eighth.

But AJ Pollock’s single put a runner aboard with two outs. Andrew Vaughn’s double put runners on second and third for Eloy Jimenez who promptly delivered a two-run double to left field. And that’s when Tony La Russa’s assistant manager got in the skipper’s ear.

In the video, you can hear the fan yelling at Tony La Russa to run for Jimenez. The outfielder has been hampered by lower leg injuries throughout the season, so putting Adam Engel into the game was the correct play.

La Russa steps onto the field and signals to the umpire that he’d like to pinch-run for Eloy Jimenez with, you guessed it, Adam Engel. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

The Astros would go on to intentionally walk Rafael Montero and then loaded the bases by walking Yasmani Grandal. Yoan Moncada then came up with a clutch hit on a line drive to center field that gave Chicago a 4-2 lead. The White Sox would go on to win the game by that two-run margin.
