The New York Yankees have been on a continuous downward spiral since losing a few good players to injury. They’re reportedly calling up a prospect in response.

The New York Yankees have been continuously struggling since losing DJ LeMahieu and Giancarlo Stanton to injuries, and they’ve been struggling to find the best method of replacement. The Yankees are reportedly bringing up prospect Oswaldo Cabrera, which will hopefully fill the gap.

Cabrera is being promoted from Triple-A. He was brought up from rookie to Single-A this season, then from Single-A straight up to Triple-A. His results have shown a ton of promise. At Triple-A, he’s hit .262/.340/.492 for an OPS of .832.

Though the Yankees are still one of the best teams in the league, they need any help they can get to keep up their performance and stay among the best.

The Yankees need to re-find their potential to remain a top team

The Yankees are sitting comfortably at the top of the AL East standings. They’re well above .500, but if they don’t improve, that could change. They’ve yet to win a series this month and recently lost to the Boston Red Sox, who are the only team in the AL East standings below .500.

Since the start of August, things have been worrisome for the club as a whole, too. They’ve lost 11 of their last 13 games and have just a 3-11 record in the month of August after losing the second straight to Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.

New York still has a high chance of making the playoffs (99.9 percent, according to FanGraphs), so not much harm will be done if they can fix the lineup soon.

However, if they continue on the downward spiral they’ve been on all month, they’re likely to struggle more than necessary in the postseason. Their hope is clearly that a prospect like Cabrera can help to stop the bleeding.
