The Houston Astros showed that they are ready for the postseason at the expense of the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox had a successful first season under Tony La Russa in 2021, which resulted in them making the postseason for the second consecutive year. 2022, however, has been a disaster for the team from the Southside of Chicago. Yet, they were still 61-57 entering their game on Aug. 18. Unfortunately for them, it was against the American League-leading Houston Astros.

On Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field, the White Sox were defeated by the Astros 21-5. That’s right, Houston scored three touchdowns, while Chicago managed to get a field goal and a safety.

Astros crush the White Sox 21-5 to prove they are posteason ready

The star for Houston on Thursday was none other than third baseman Alex Bregman. In six at-bats, Bregman knocked in six runs on two home runs and two doubles, while scoring four times and stealing one base.

One of Houston’s other top performers was outfielder Chas McCormick, who recorded three hits, including a three-run homer in the eighth inning, while knocking five runs in.

As if the score was not evidence enough, the White Sox pitching staff got pummeled. Lucas Giolito lasted a total of three innings, where he surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits, causing his ERA to increase to 5.34 on the year.

The other 14 runs surrendered by Chicago were off of Vince Velazquez (5), Jose Ruiz (5), and second baseman Josh Harrison (4). Yes, the White Sox used a position player to pitch, in case you were wondering.

Houston used the trade deadline to bolster their already impressive team further by bringing in catcher Christian Vazquez and first baseman Trey Mancini. Now, they have the best record in the AL and have a tiebreaker over the New York Yankees after defeating them five times in their seven games met this season. While there is still over a month remaining in the season, the Astros look primed to make the World Series for the fourth time in the six years.
