The Atlanta Braves will face the New York Mets on Thursday night at Truist Park for the final game of the series. So far, the Braves are leading the series 2-1. The lineup will likely look similar to the prior three games.
For the Mets, some players have consistently been in the lineup each game, which is unlikely to change for the final game. That group will likely include:
- Brandon Nimmo (CF)
- Starling Marte (RF)
- Francisco Lindor (SS)
- Pete Alonso (1B)
- Daniel Vogelbach (DH)
- Jeff McNeil (2B)
The ones that have differed throughout the series have been catcher, left field and third base.
For the Braves, the consistent lineup will probably include:
- Ronald Acuña Jr. (RF)
- Dansby Swanson (SS)
- Austin Riley (3B)
- Matt Olson (1B)
- Michael Harris II (CF)
- Vaugh Grissom (2B)
The positions that have differed have been left field, catcher and designated hitter. However, William Contreras is likely to be in the lineup as either catcher or designated hitter.
The pitching matchup between the Braves and Mets is top talent
The pitching matchup will be Jacob deGrom vs. Max Fried. Both are some of the best pitchers on their teams and have been reliable all season. Mets pitcher deGrom made a late start to the season. He made his 2022 debut on Aug. 2 and over 16.2 innings pitched, he’s allowed just three runs, one walk and has struck out 28.
Over his last full season in 2019, he produced an ERA of 2.43, batting average against of .207 and WHIP of 0.97.
Fried is having the best season of his career so far. He’s not pitching as well as deGrom, but he’s still producing results better than most. He’s produced an ERA of 2.60, BAA of .237 and WHIP of 1.08 so far this season.
The game will certainly be a good one with top talent from each team emerging.
