During the Seattle Seahawks’ second game of the preseason, starting guard Damien Lewis went down with an injury that brought about an unfortunate scene.

One of the goals of the preseason is just to make it out of each game healthy. No NFL team wants to see any player on the roster get hurt, but that’s especially true as it pertains to the limited snaps that the starters play. And unfortunately, the Seattle Seahawks were not so lucky to avoid that on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears.

In the first half of the game, the starting offensive line and Geno Smith, one of the potential starters at quarterback, were on the field for Seattle.

After one offensive play, though, center Austin Blythe immediately looked over at his teammate, starting left guard Damien Lewis, and called for trainers and coaches to come onto the field. It was a bit of a scary scene as it became clear Lewis had some sort of leg injury.

He was soon put into an aircast before being helped onto the cart and being ruled out for the game.

Seahawks: Damien Lewis injury requires aircast, cart in preseason game vs. Bears

That’s the last thing anyone wants to see in any of these preseason games, but it’s especially troublesome for the Seahawks to lose Lewis.

Seattle’s offensive line woes have been widely documented but Lewis, a former star at LSU, has been a bright spot in recent years. Losing him with an injury to start the season could be hugely detrimental as they face a change at quarterback after the Russell Wilson trade this offseason.

We’ll have to wait until after the game for an update on the extent of Lewis’ injuries with specificity as it’s only being called an ankle injury for now. However, the aircast and cart being used are not good signs.

Best wishes to Lewis on a speedy recovery.
