Bottom Feeders: Predicting each Power Five college football conference’s last-place team

ACC: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will hit rock bottom under Geoff Collins soon
Few coaches in the Power Five are under more pressure than Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech. While he had the impossible task of rebuilding the Yellow Jackets program after being a triple-option attack under Paul Johnson for over a decade, the Ramblin’ Wreck needs to push for bowl eligibility if Collins wants another year down on The Flats. How sure are we Tech wins more than one game?
Georgia Tech should beat Western Carolina in the non-conference. Congratulations, you still have to play Ole Miss at home, UCF in Orlando and arch-rival Georgia in Athens. They are not beating Ole Miss or Georgia, and it would be shocking if the Yellow Jackets beat the Knights in the Bounce House. As we turn our attention to ACC play, are there even three wins to be had from this slate?
Georgia Tech’s safest bet for a conference victory is home vs. Duke for homecoming. Gun to my head, two other wins might come at home vs. Virginia on a short week after a bye and maybe Florida State in Tallahassee with an extra two days to prepare for it? Even if Virginia Tech has a first-time head coach in Brent Pry, that game is in Blacksburg. At Pitt and at UNC will be tough.
In the ACC hierarchy, it comes down to Duke and Georgia Tech in the Coastal, as well as someone like Syracuse in the Atlantic to be the worst team in the league. While Dino Babers may be on the hot seat, he did win 10 games not that long ago at SU. As for Duke, the Blue Devils hired Mike Elko to be their head coach for a reason. Players are more likely to buy into him over Tech’s lost cause.
The best thing Georgia Tech can do is pay Deion Sanders whatever it takes to lead them in 2023.
