3. Julius Randle, New York Knicks

After striking out on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency in the summer of 2019, the New York Knicks moved forward to sign Julius Randle to a multi-year deal. Randle’s first season in New York was far from ideal, leaving Knicks fans wondering if signing him was the right decision.

Then, there was his second season, where he became an All-Star for the first time in his career and helped the Knicks make the playoffs for the first time since 2013. In the process, the Knicks signed him to a four-year, $117.1 million contract extension.

This past season, Randle could not replicate the success he had the year prior. He averaged 20.1 points while shooting 41.1-percent from the field, a drop-off from his 24.1 points average and 45.6 field goal percentage in the 2020-21 campaign.

This offseason, Randle has been the subject of a variety of rumors, as the Knicks trading for Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell would open things up for a move. In fact, NBA insider Marc Stein said back in July the Lakers could potentially pursue Randle, their former 2014 first-round pick, if the Knicks were to land Mitchell.
