2. BYU vs. Notre Dame: Mormons vs. Catholics

Although Notre Dame plans on being independent forever, or for as long as it almost makes some sort of sense financially, BYU is hooking up with the Big 12 in July. While the Cougars should still try to play state rivals Utah and Utah State as often as possible, they have room for one more game on the schedule after taking on nine in the Big 12. They should absolutely play Notre Dame.

It will be Mormons vs. Catholics, as the two most notable religious institutions in the country will clash every fall. Alternating from Provo and South Bend, tell me again, why they are not playing this game annually already? You’ve got two of the top 25 programs in the history of the sport, both with massive nationwide fanbases. A win over the other will always be deemed a quality one.

Interestingly enough, the biggest challenge with putting this game on the schedule annually is BYU will now only have three games to play with outside of the Big 12 slate. Notre Dame still has a loose affiliation with the ACC on the football field, but technically would have more wiggle room to make this budding rivalry with BYU happen. Again, why are we not playing this game annually?

Let’s start thinking about how cool the LaVell Edwards-Ara Parseghian Trophy is going to look, bro.
