Northwestern football gets its season underway in Dublin, Ireland against Nebraska and the Wildcats unleashed an awesome new helmet for the occasion.
College football season is fast approaching, and among the notable first games is an international bout between Northwestern and Nebraska in Ireland.
In anticipation of this event, the Northwestern program unveiled a new look to celebrate the location and deliver a strong fashion statement. The same purple helmet with Irish flag colors implored between the “N”.

To some, it may look like a purple helmet with Miami colors, as the Hurricanes have a white helmet with an orange and green U logo.
@HollyAnderson @edsbs They did it! The Mad Lads of Medill did it! pic.twitter.com/LbIOKp4tNI

Didn't realize the school had adopted The U colors as part of its new color scheme ...

But technically speaking, the Wildcats did pretty well with their design, and some on social media seem to agree.
As a @HawkeyeFootball fan gotta admit these are pretty sweet. Now go put Nebby back in their place.

Northwestern football makes fashion statement with helmets for Dublin
Nebraska and Northwestern, both members of the Big Ten, live by the old-school philosophies of football, so it’s certainly nice to see the Wildcats put a fashion spin on the matchup, and what the Cornhuskers do, if anything, remains to be seen.
But fashion doesn’t matter in this game. It allows the winner to gain a leg up in the conference, and it can have implications on how the season will ultimately play out. It is known what Nebraska fans are expecting after many rough years, and Northwestern is looking to continue its tradition of being a pesky Big Ten team that surprises the big boys.
Nonetheless, Northwestern made a statement with their choice of apparel and did so quite respectfully, paying tribute to the host city of their event. It will be interesting to see if any other teams do it if they get an opportunity to go abroad and play.
Both teams will kick off their season in Ireland on Saturday, Aug 27, at 12:30 PM ET on FOX.
