New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is undoubtedly having a major impact on the franchise, and he’s matching up with MLB legends.

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is having a huge impact on the franchise. He made his MLB debut in 2019 and wasted no time proving he deserves to be there. He’s tied with MLB legend Joe DiMaggio for fifth-most all-time career home runs within four seasons.

Alonso is only in his fourth career season, so he may surpass DiMaggio as the season continues.

The 27-year-old first baseman is helping the franchise significantly, and he’s just beginning. He’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Alonso has hit a career average of .260/.348/.537 for an OPS of .885. He’s having his second-best season, slightly behind his first MLB season. He’s one of the best hitters in New York and out of all regular starters, he has the best isolated power (.248). Alonso stands out on a team with a good lineup overall thanks to his power.

Among all teams, the Mets have the sixth-best batting average (.258), third-best on-base percentage (.329) and eighth-best OPS (.737). They could improve their overall power in the lineup. They have the 10th-best slugging percentage (.408), so Alonso brings power that is needed.

He’s also helping bring the team success that hasn’t been achieved often in franchise history. According to FanGraphs, the Mets have a 100 percent chance of making the playoffs this season. They’ve only made nine playoffs in 60 seasons, so this season could be a big one.

New York should certainly hold onto Alonso as long as they can.
