Nebraska football fans made the long trip to Ireland en masse but after a loss to Northwestern, it sounds like they want to leave Scott Frost behind.

Scott Frost entered his fifth season as head coach at Nebraska with an extremely short leash.

Losing to Northwestern in Dublin definitely wasn’t the way to loosen it.

The Cornhuskers were double-digit favorites over the Wildcats but the game proved that advantages on paper don’t equal victories.

Northwestern overcame an 11-point deficit in the third quarter with a relentless rushing attack, handing Nebraska a 31-28 loss.

Frost will be lucky if he still has a job by the time he makes it back over the Atlantic, if they let him on the team plane at all.

The moment of the game came in the third quarter after the Huskers took a 28-17 lead on Anthony Grant’s second touchdown run of the second half. Frost gave the green light to an onside kick, which set Northwestern up with good field position when they recovered. The Wildcats promptly scored a touchdown to cut the deficit to one score.

Frost’s job is probably safe for the time being. It’s not because deserves to keep his job. It’s because he has a buyout that will decrease later this fall. The Cornhuskers are better off financially forcing their fans to watch a few more games of this futility rather than dumping the head coach in Ireland.

There’s a chance Frost could save his job in the time he has left but this feels like the point of no return.
