A fascinating historical observation indicates that the fate of Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys and Taylor Swift are inextricably linked.

During his first three years with the Green Bay Packers, head coach Mike McCarthy saw a rapid upward trajectory that renewed faith in another Green Bay era.

McCarthy arrived at a 6-10 record his first year, saw only five losses in the next before losing in the Wild Card round, then went all the way to a Super Bowl the following year.

Coincidentally, Taylor Swift released albums in those first and third seasons.

What Blogging The Boys EIC RJ Ochoa noticed is that there seems to be a pattern that connects Taylor Swift and Mike McCarthy to massive wins.

By Ochoa’s rationale, a Cowboys Super Bowl next February is all but guaranteed.

If there ever were an example that correlation does not equal causation, it’s this, but it’s hard not to marvel at the eerie similarities between these events.

The repeated win record is bizarre, but the Cowboys’ quick turnaround makes sense in context. Dak Prescott was injured in Week 5 of what began as an extremely promising 2020 season. Upon his return from injury, Prescott led the Cowboys to 12 wins the following season, a more accurate representation of his capabilities. Of course, their hopes of a deeper postseason were dashed with McCarthy’s decision to have Prescott run on the final play of their Wild Card matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

As far as having what it takes to win a Super Bowl, the Cowboys suffered a serious blow when offensive tackle Tyron Smith suffered a torn left hamstring injury that will have him sidelined until December.

But if Swift can share a little bit of the success she’s enjoyed over the course of her career, illustrated once again at the VMAs, perhaps winning big is in the cards for the Cowboys, too.
