3 reasons the Yankees won’t win the 2022 World Series
By Tim Boyle
These three roadblocks could get in the way of the New York Yankees winning the 2022 World Series.
The New York Yankees go together with the World Series like whipped cream on apple pie. No one has won more championships in MLB history. It’s going to take a few decades for anyone to even come close.
That’s the past. What about the immediate future?
The 2022 Yankees have shown signs of weakness over the last few weeks. While still a very powerful club, winning a World Series might not happen for them this year. What could prevent this once unstoppable force from taking home baseball’s ultimate prize?
3) Yankees don’t have the pitching depth to win a World Series
The IL loves claiming Yankees pitchers. From Chad Green early on this season to Aroldis Chapman far more recently, it seemed like you aren’t a part of the Yankees pitching staff this year unless you make at least one appearance on the IL.
The club already lost Michael King for the season and have been searching for a replacement ever since. It’s pretty amazing that they haven’t collapsed completely with a bullpen currently led by Wandy Peralta and Ron Marinaccio among a few other less recognizable names. The team does have one of the best bullpen ERAs on the season which is even more impressive when guys like Chapman and Jonathan Loaisiga haven’t been sharp.
The starting rotation has their own injuries to worry about and they’ll just have to hope they have enough healthy bodies for a postseason run.
As great as the numbers have been, there’s a lurking feeling that the good times could come to a sudden halt at any moment. Can Domingo German really be trusted? Will Nestor Cortes return from the IL and continue on his magical season?
Compared to other teams vying for a championship, it seems like the Yankees have been luckier than most. Thank the guys who have stepped up. Blame the injury bug. Fear the lack of an answer at the closer spot.
