Fernando Tatis Jr. surgery rescheduled due to illness

San Diego Padres slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. has presented quite a few unexpected turns this season, and he’s faced with another one regarding his injury.

San Diego Padres slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. has had quite the year — and hardly in a good way.

He didn’t play any MLB games due to injury, and right when he was about to make his season debut, he got suspended for PED use. Now, right when he was about to get shoulder surgery while serving his 80-game suspension, it got postponed due to a non-COVID illness.

Tatis reportedly has strep throat and a fever. It’s unclear when his surgery will be rescheduled. The surgery was to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, which he reportedly turned down having last offseason. Things seem to be going downhill for the young player.

Tatis’ career hasn’t been looked at the same since his PED suspension. He’s been under scrutiny and many franchise members and officials close to him have publicly spoken out about feeling disappointed.

They do, however, seem to be willing to let Tatis earn their trust back.

Tatis spoke out about his suspension and stated, “I’m going to remember how this feels, and I’m going to make myself not ever be in this position ever again.  know I have a lot of love that I have to gain back. I have a lot of work to do. It’s going to be a very long process to gain everybody’s trust,” according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.

Manager Bob Melvin and several teammates expressed their love and support for Tatis, but made it clear that regaining his trust will be a process.

Tatis also recently got dropped by Adidas in response to the news. If he can turn himself around and learn from his mistakes, he could continue a successful career in the future.
