The Kansas City Chiefs have some tough decisions to make ahead of NFL cut day in order to trim their roster down to 53 players. Hereās an updated list of some of the main players they let go.
The Chiefs had a busy morning, releasing several veterans many pundits thought would make the roster.
However, Kansas Cityās roster is one which is getting younger at a rapid pace. Brett Veach doesnāt wait around to make the right move ā heās typically one step ahead. Thatās why he encouraged Andy Reid to allow several members of the draft class, and even undrafted free agents, to play alongside the starters in some preseason action.
Seventh-round pick Isiah Pacheco is just one example of a player who thrived in that action.
KC Chiefs roster cuts: Josh Gordon released
Kansas City released Josh Gordon on Tuesday morning. While theyāre reportedly open to bringing him back and have enjoyed seeing his presence develop in the community, there just wasnāt a spot on the 53-man roster for him.
A practice squad move could be in his future in Kansas City, assuming he doesnāt sign elsewhere.
KC Chiefs roster cuts: Danny Shelton
The Chiefs released a former first-round pick of Washington in Shelton. While the defensive tackle can surely sign on elsewhere as a defensive line presence, Veach was evidently impressed enough with other players along the d-line that he didnāt feel the need to reach for a vet like Shelton to make the roster.
KC Chiefs roster cuts: Daurice Fountain
Kansas City had to trim down its wide receiver corps, and Fountain and Josh Gordon appear to be the unlucky ones. With the likes of ShaneĀ Buechele making the roster, there were bound to be a few surprises.
