Green Bay’s wide receiver corps was going to be an area of emphasis this training camp. After all, the team traded away Davante Adams and watched Marquez Valdes-Scantling leave via free agency. Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins, and rookie Christian Watson were virtual locks to make the roster. It was then a battle to see who would get the remaining spots on the depth chart.

Shockingly, Juwann Winfree was not one of them.

Winfree joined the Packers back in 2020, and logged offensive statistics during the 2021 campaign (eight receptions, 58 yards). This summer, he had the chance to remain with the team once again.

Perhaps where Winfree had an edge was that he received praise from starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The same thing happened years ago with Jake Kumerow, and we all know how that ended up. Sadly, the same happened with Winfree.

Despite Rodgers’ praise and recording seven receptions for 75 yards in Green Bay’s three preseason games, Winfree was waived by the team. It would not be shocking if Winfree were to be picked up by another team, where he can get a shot to log some serious snaps during the 2022 season.
