The Pittsburgh Steelers have some tough decisions to make on roster cut day, as Mike Tomlin and Co. look to trim their group down to 53 players.

The Steelers quarterback competition has taken home most of the headlines during training camp, and for good reason. Mitch Trubisky seems the likely winner given he was the team’s biggest free-agent signing, while Kenny Pickett will back him up as Pittsburgh’s first-round draft pick.

Pickett is the future of the franchise at that position, but what about the rest of the roster? Linebacker, offensive line and defensive line are just a few positions in flux as we enter a new season.

Steelers roster cut tracker: Mason Rudolph trade rumors

We’ll have more on possible Pittsburgh roster cuts here.

The team is already taking trade calls on Mason Rudolph and more. Rudolph won’t pick up much in draft capital, but he remains a sustainable backup at best, with upside as a starter if needed. He proved that once again this preseason, putting up respectable numbers for a team that doesn’t even want him.

Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, rival teams are happy to wait around and see if the front office merely releases Rudolph as a result of a trimmed roster. If not, then there might be trade potential.

Steelers roster cuts: Pair of twins released

DL Carlos Davis and Khalil Davis have been cut. Despite Pittsburgh’s poor defensive line depth, there wasn’t room for them.

Steelers roster cuts: Two former draft picks gone

Pittsburgh’s front office wasn’t enamored with two former late-round draft picks. Linebacker Buddy Johnson, a fourth-round pick in 2021, and Davis (mentioned above) were released.

Steelers roster cut tracker: Notable moves

Pittsburgh doesn’t have much of a margin for error, especially entering their first season without Ben Roethlisberger in decades. Decisions made on Tuesday could have major ramifications for their playoff chances in 2022 and beyond.
