2. Fried wasn’t sharp

Max Fried didn’t fool the Rockies on Tuesday night, notching just three strikeouts in five innings of work. Those three strikeouts marked the fewest for Fried since he logged just two Ks in an outing against Pittsburgh on May 23, 2021.

Additionally, Colorado put six Fried pitches into play at more than 100 mph, tying for the second-highest number that Fried has surrendered this season.

“I mean, I definitely was grinding out there. Sometimes you feel really good and you have your stuff and you’re sharp, and other days you’re not. And tonight, I wasn’t all that sharp,” Fried said. “I think it was just one of those days. The curveball was the only pitch keeping me in it. It was a competitive pitch and I felt like it was doing well and, when my back was against the wall, it was the pitch I leaned on.”

“It’s just one of those days where I was a little out of rhythm,” Fried continued. “I just didn’t have it.”

The five innings logged by Fried snapped a streak of six consecutive games where he had pitched six innings or more.
