New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo may have made the catch of the 2022 season after robbing Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner of a home run.
The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers have been competing in a three-game series this week, which may very well be a preview of this year’s NLCS. The series officially reached its end on Wednesday, Aug. 31 in Queens. The Mets were looking to make a statement against the Dodgers, and outfielder Brandon Nimmo provided just that.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mets ace Jacob deGrom looked to preserve their 2-1 lead over the Dodgers. On a 0-1 pitch, third baseman Justin Turner sent the baseball deep to center field, and it looked like it could go for game-tying solo home run. Yet, it was Nimmo who leapt in the air and snagged the baseball, in what could very well be the catch of the year.
What an absolutely unbelievable catch by Brandon Nimmo to rob Justin Turner of a homer and preserve a one-run lead. The catch of the year, easily, and the catch of Nimmo's career. pic.twitter.com/63eiS7Axfl

BRANDON NIMMO DID THAT

This catch was absolutely clutch by Nimmo, as it eliminated any comeback attempt by the Dodgers.
Adam Ottavino retired all three batters he faced in the top of the eighth inning, including strikeouts to Joey Gallo and Mookie Betts. Then, Edwin Diaz entered the ninth, played to the mound by Timmy Trumpet. Diaz struck out Trea Turner in three pitches, and forced Freddie Freeman and Will Smith to ground out to end the game and give the Mets the 2-1 victory.
There is still a month remaining in the season, but Nimmo may have the catch of the year award secured.
