All-time Pittsburgh Steelers moments to be a fan for
By Andrew Falce
Steelers’ greatest moment No. 1: Super Bowl 43
This game was different. The intensity, the emotion, and the absolutely stunning conclusion. Without a doubt, this is the greatest game in franchise history. It was a different story this time around, as the Steelers were no longer the underdogs like they were a few years ago or even way back to when they played the Vikings. They didn’t disappoint though.
The Steelers’ defense came in highly rated, and early in the game, they showcased that strength. They only allowed one score from the Cardinals in the first half. Better yet, to close out the second quarter, James Harrison famously scored off an interception. He read the play perfectly, and then he rumbled for 100 yards and stumbled into the endzone.
Both teams had quite a few tremendous plays. One just has to think about Larry Fitzgerald streaking down the field for what looked like a game-winning touchdown (his second of the day). It looked like Arizona was going to pull off the upset as Pittsburgh took the field down by three with a little over two minutes left in the game.
With the clock waning, we had the perfect final play. Everyone knows what I’m talking about. Roethlisberger moved out of the pocket and lofted a pass to Santonio Holmes. Surrounded by defenders in the back corner of the endzone, Holmes somehow caught the pass and kept both feet inbounds. It truly was the perfect pass and the perfect catch, and that play makes the Steelers’ Super Bowl 43 victory their best moment in franchise history.
For a team as accomplished as the Steelers, it was hard to pick just five moments as the best in team history. That said, the ones selected truly embody what it means to be a fan of this team. From league-wide losers to gritty underdogs, to the embodiment of a dynasty, these five Steelers moments represent the greatest in franchise history.
