2. Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott’s contract with the Dallas Cowboys is worth $40 million AAV, $9 million cheaper than Russell Wilson’s with the Broncos.

$40 million a year is nothing to shake a stick at, even when discussing the going rate of elite NFL quarterbacks. Given what Dak Prescott’s ceiling offers the Cowboys, his contract looks like a steal compared to most all of the high-dollar QB deals. What is most glaring when viewed side-by-side with Russell Wilson, is the difference between age and production between the two.

Prescott signed a four-year $160 million dollar deal that cemented him in Dallas throughout his prime years. The Broncos designing a contract that paints a 33-year-old Russell Wilson as $9 million more valuable than Dak Prescott makes Dallas’ deal look like a steal. Wilson has always thrown more touchdown passes than Prescott, but Dak has been awesomely reliable for the Cowboys, and seemingly closer in value to Russ than he is.

With the disastrous recent history of quarterbacks in Denver, the Broncos didn’t have much leverage in terms of bringing a proven winner to town, which surely influenced Wilson’s price tag. That said, he may be just the guy to bring success back to Denver, however, Dak Prescott is doing just as much, if not more, than Wilson in Dallas for a fraction of the cost

3. Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford is another $40 million AAV quarterback. He, however, stands out as a steal in comparison to Russell Wilson for the return on investment that immediately came to the Rams. That is not to say that the Broncos are incapable of a championship in year one of the Russell Wilson experiment, but there is a glaring outlier between the two situations: the talent on each respective roster.

The Rams paid a pretty penny to extend Matthew Stafford after trading for him, but they did so to complete a roster that was primed for a championship. Russell Wilson came to Denver to bring a team out of the basement while playing behind an abysmal offensive line and alongside an injury-prone wide receiver corps.

Stafford’s nearly ten million dollar discount in comparison to Wilson’s extension will always be a steal unless Russ can replicate the immediate success of the Rams in L.A.
