Atlanta Braves right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has “terrible” knee pain, but he’s planning on playing through it until the season ends. According to Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, when asked about how his knee pain was, Acuña responded, “Terrible. But we’re going to play through it until the season is over.”
He’s played inconsistently over the past month for various discomforts, and he missed the team’s championship run last season. Now, he seems determined to be a part of the postseason.
The Braves are on a good track for postseason success. They’re currently second in the highly-competitive NL East standings, just three games behind the New York Mets. According to FanGraphs, they have a 100 percent chance of making the playoffs and an 11.2 percent chance of winning the World Series.
Acuña is having a decent season considering the circumstances. Though he’s done better, he’s still doing well.
Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is usually one of the best hitters in Atlanta
Under normal circumstances, Acuña is usually one of the best hitters in Atlanta. In 2021, he was among the top three, hitting .283/.394/.596. This season, he’s, unfortunately, having the worst season of his career. However, it’s still not bad.
He’s hitting .274/.366/.413 for an OPS of .779 this season and is still considered one of the better hitters on the Braves. He’s lost a lot of power in his swing, which is expected with injuries. The 24-year-old slugger is one to fear in the lineup regardless.
In his five-season career, Acuña has played in three All-Star games and earned two Silver Sluggers. His dedication is evident, and he’ll likely have a great impact on the team regardless of injury.
