3. White Sox only signed Elvis Andrus as an emergency option

Where does Elvis Andrus fit in next season? Released by the Oakland Athletics this summer, he landed with the White Sox only a few days later as a response to them losing Tim Anderson. He has actually hit very well for them and Andrus is now working his way back to becoming a useful player for next season.

The soon-to-be free-agent shortstop wouldn’t be a wise choice to start on a ball club. As a bench player who they can possibly move around the infield, he wouldn’t be such a bad pick.

The White Sox could look at Andrus favorably and hope to continue the relationship. Could they even consider him for the starting second base job? It’s not the most outrageous decision the team could make. Then again, with Tony La Russa intentionally walking batters with two strikes on them, it’s hard to beat.

Two other noteworthy free agents on the White Sox roster are Jose Abreu and A.J. Pollock. We can expect Abreu to return to the White Sox even on a short-term contract. As for Pollock, it’s a player option that would free him. Waiving it and becoming a free agent after this down year wouldn’t be such a wise move. Unfortunately, he should be back on the Southside of Chicago in 2023.
