QBs that could get contract extensions before Lamar Jackson: Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow is that dude. Last year was technically his sophomore season, but he was still finding his groove after his rookie season ended prematurely due to an injury.

The recovery didn’t slow him down at all, as he proved he was 100 percent pro-ready last year. With a new weapon in his college teammate Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow took the Bengals to a successful 10-6 year and into the playoffs.

That probably would have been enough to call it a success for year two for Burrow. After all, it had been over five years since the Bengals last appeared in the postseason. He didn’t stop there, though, winning the AFC and taking Cincy to the Super Bowl.

While they didn’t win, it was their most successful year since 1988.

The Bengals want to get a deal done with Burrow. He’s the face of their franchise and they’ve already protected their investment by finally doing something about the offensive line. La’el Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras were all offseason additions that will move the needle on bringing down Burrow’s sack rate. Burrow was sacked a league-leading 51 times last year, not great wear on an asset you might be preparing to sink upwards of $300 million on.

Burrow is probably the next quarterback to secure an extension. Expect his to look something like Josh Allen’s.
