Why isn’t Arch Manning replacing injured Quinn Ewers for Texas?
By John Buhler
There is a reason why Arch Manning has not replaced Quinn Ewers at quarterback for Texas.
While Quinn Ewers suffered what looks to be a serious injury in Texas’ Week 2 two-step with the Alabama Crimson Tide, there is a good explanation as to why Arch Manning isn’t playing yet.
Well, that’s because Manning is still in high school, dominating whatever lower-tiered prep school the Greater New Orleans area can ever hope to provide for him. Manning is in his senior season at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, the same alma mater as his father Cooper, his uncles Eli and Peyton and Odell Beckham Jr. Manning will not enroll at Texas, or wherever, until early January.
In the meantime, get ready to get ready for Hudson Card having all the cards in this Texas offense.
Texas football: Why Arch Manning is not replacing Quinn Ewers after injury
Somehow, someway, Texas is not getting its teeth kicked in by Alabama in Week 2. The Crimson Tide have had their struggles with the relentless pass-rush of the Longhorns. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young has spent half of the game on his back staring into the bright Texas sunshine above him. If the Longhorns pull off the upset, they might be back in some circles, aight.
Many people expected for Texas to be better in year two under head coach Steve Sarkisian. No amount of monkey business would be tolerated. The Longhorns are recruiting at a level to help them gear up for the big move from the Big 12 into the SEC. They may still be a year away from being a serious national title contender, but they are hanging tough with the Evil Empire meow.
As for what Ewers’ injury could mean for Manning, it really depends on the severity. A broken collarbone probably means season over for the former five-star from Southlake Carroll. The idea was for Manning to redshirt upon his arrival in Austin anyway, but if Card gets to do magic tricks in this offense all year long, he may not be the one to transfer. Ewers already burned up his free one.
Ewers not being Texas’ star quarterback certainly complicates things entering next year in Austin.
