Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 2: No. 14-13

14. BYU Cougars

If you were wondering if BYU was for real or not, this team just welcomed a Top 10-ranked Baylor team to Provo while not having their two best wide receivers on the field and still got the job done.

Was it always pretty for the Cougars? Not in the slightest. But that speaks to what this team brings to the table as they could welcome one of the favorites in the Big 12 to town while shorthanded and claw out an overtime victory.

BYU has a tough schedule ahead but they just cleared the first hurdle. If they can keep passing tests this season, it’s going to be hard to deny the Cougars as a legitimate sleeper for the College Football Playoff.

13. Miami Hurricanes

For a minute there, it looked as if Mario Cristobal might join Marcus Freeman and Jimbo Fisher as head coaches left in disbelief after their team got upset on Saturday. Southern Miss came to the tip of Florida and jumped out to an early 7-3 lead over the Hurricanes. Luckily for the new head coach, Tyler Van Dyke and The U found their way at the end of the first half and didn’t look back.

The end result was a 30-7 victory in favor of the Canes. Van Dyke finished with 263 yards, one score and one interception but still led his team to getting the job done at the end of the day. Still, for Miami to prove they are more than they’ve been in recent disappointing seasons, getting scared at all against a team like Southern Miss isn’t going to cut it for long.
