Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 2: No. 6-5

6. Oklahoma Sooners

Things looked like they might get hairy in a hurry for Brent Venables. After an up-and-down win over UTEP last week, Oklahoma came out completely flat to start Week 2 and was about to go into halftime trailing 3-0 at home against Kent State. But Dillon Gabriel found Marvin Mims for a touchdown right before the break that seemingly got the Sooners on the right track.

OU came out of the locker room and immediately hung 26 unanswered points on the Golden Flashes before never looking back in a blowout win.

Oklahoma clearly has some things that they still need to iron out on offense despite the clear talent that they have on the roster. It’s a new system and this is the time to make those adjustments, but the Sooners have big expectations and those being met hinges upon how Jeff Lebby’s offense starts to fully come together.

5. Clemson Tigers

Ranking Clemson right now feels next to impossible. They are 2-0 to this point and neither the win over Georgia Tech last week or their victory against Furman this week were particularly close. At the same time, though, nothing that Dabo Swinney’s team has done overall leaves anyone feeling extremely confident in this team right now.

That, of course, starts with DJ Uiagalelei at quarterback, who was fine with a 231-yard, two-touchdown performance through the air on Saturday but still threw a pick and looked a bit suspect. But more than that, the defense only allowed 12 points but did let Furman quarterback Tyler Huff go 30-for-39 for 256 yards on the day.

Before the level of competition ramps up for Clemson, they need to make some changes. Cade Klubnik, anyone?
