Urban Meyer has seen enough out of the Georgia football team to think the Dawgs will repeat.
Georgia football fans will have to take Urban Meyer’s Week 1 overreaction about the Dawgs repeating as national champions in stride.
Meyer made his triumphant return to the set of Big Noon Kickoff on Saturday morning. The former head coach spoke glowingly about the Dawgs’ utter evisceration of the Oregon Ducks in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff last week, as they dominated in all three phases of the game. He believes the two most underrated names in college football are Todd Monken and Stetson Bennett IV. Is he wrong?
Meyer may have picked Georgia to repeat, but Brady Quinn’s take on Bennett might have Dawg Nation even more excited. Go grab yourself some Stetson cologne and bask in that pungent scent!
Urban Meyer bullish on Georgia football team’s chances at repeating in 2022
Anyone who follows the Georgia program closely could have told you what Meyer said. Even though the Dawgs lost 15 players to the 2022 NFL Draft, including five starters on defense in the first round, they have not only reloaded, but may be a more offensive-driven team than many people even realize. This is Bennett’s first, and only, offseason as Georgia’s unquestioned starter.
With a blowout win victory Oregon, Georgia may not be tested in any of its remaining regular-season games. Of course, the Dawgs still have the likes of Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Tennessee on their SEC slate. Should Georgia play up to its standard, the Dawgs will get to Atlanta undefeated and will have clinched a playoff berth, regardless of what happens vs. likely Alabama.
As for if Georgia can repeat, it really comes down to if a more balanced roster when compared to a defensively dominant team from a year ago has what it takes to beat the likes of Ohio State and Alabama consecutively. For now, it would not be shocking, but that is why we have to play the games. A lot can change from Labor Day Weekend through Thanksgiving Weekend and beyond.
Georgia may repeat, but the Dawgs will have to beat Alabama at least once to even have a chance.
