Nick Saban, Alabama were somehow prepared for Texas A/C warfare
By Scott Rogust
The Texas Longhorns waged air conditioning warfare against the Alabama Crimson Tide, but it did not work out.
The Alabama Crimson Tide entered Austin, Texas to take on the Longhorns for their second game of the season. Steve Sarkisian’s team did push Nick Saban’s squad to the limit, but they were unable to pull off the upset. Instead, Alabama picked up the 20-19 win on a field goal in the final seconds of regulation.
Saban was prepared for everything in Texas. The Crimson Tide allegedly did not have air conditioning in the visiting locker room at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium, per ABC 33/40 News’ Jamie Hale. So, Alabama brought their own air conditioning unit with them for their road game.
Alabama allegedly brings own air conditioning unit to Texas
That is brutal, considering that temperatures in Austin on Saturday, Sept. 20 were in the high-90s. But, the Crimson Tide were prepared for all scenarios.
The Longhorns did give the Crimson Tide a scare, as they took a 16-10 lead in the second half. However, Bryce Young was able to put Alabama back ahead, as he connected on a seven-yard pass to Jahmyr Gibbs for the touchdown, giving them a 17-16 lead. Yet, Texas was able to take a 19-17 lead on a 49-yard field goal by Bert Auburn.
Texas’ issue was that they left 1:29 on the clock, which was way too much time to give to Alabama. The Crimson Tide orchestrated a nine-play drive, which ended with Will Reichard hitting a 33-yard field goal to take the 20-19 lead with 10 seconds remaining.
The Crimson Tide are now 2-0 on the season, while Texas will look back at how close they were to pulling off a huge upset.
