Oklahoma football fans spent the better part of the year cursing Lincoln Riley’s name but now some are missing him thanks to a Kent State upset bid.

Oklahoma fans had to feel pretty good about the direction of their program after a decisive blowout victory over UTEP.

Week 2 was supposed to be more of the same with Kent State on the slate. The Golden Flashes had other ideas.

In a shock first half, Kent State stifled Dillon Gabriel and the Sooners. It took a touchdown late in the second quarter before Oklahoma found the endzone, taking a tenuous 7-3 lead into the break.

How did Oklahoma fans handle that turn of events? Some of them turned on new head coach Brent Venables and talked about missing Lincoln Riley.

Oklahoma football fans actually miss Lincoln Riley

Oklahoma was a 33-point favorite at home over Kent State. A 33-point favorite shouldn’t lead by just four points at halftime. They shouldn’t have to scrape out a single touchdown in the first half.

It’s no wonder Sooner fans are looking around and wondering what’s going on. After all, they were just fine against UTEP. The opposition didn’t get much better.

The Sooners averaged 0.5 yards per carry in the first half. Yikes.

The defense let Kent State eat clock and limit possessions for Gabriel and company. Kent State.

It was a terrible performance. The good news is it couldn’t possibly get any worse than that. Could it?

Kent State will be looking to complete an unbelievable upset.

If that happens, expect Sooners fans to get even more fired up over a humbling Week 2 outing.
