3) Longtime Yankees prospect Estevan Florial has struggled too much, again

For several years, Estevan Florial was supposed to be a part of the future in the Bronx. He only saw limited action in 2020 and 2021 and now handed a few more chances this year, we’re seeing why the Yankees are disinterested.

Florial has picked up only 3 hits in his first 35 trips to the plate to give him a dreadful .097 batting average on the year. During a time when the Yankees could have really used someone like him to step up, Florial has come up well short of those old expectations many had for him.

The odds of Florial even making it onto the postseason roster were slim. He can’t hit as well as Miguel Andujar and while Marwin Gonzalez has had a rough year, at least he’s a veteran who has done it before. Gonzalez’s ability to play all over the field also helps keep him on the roster as well.

It should be noted, for as much as Yankees fans are done with Aaron Hicks, there isn’t a better option behind him. The Yankees could have really used Florial or Cabrera to step up and grab a job. Instead, they’re filling a seat on the bench until the IL finally starts to empty out. It’s only a matter of time before they’re gone and giving the fans less grief.
