2. Joe Flacco

In news that can’t be qualified as stunning, the New York Jets lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. The Jets’ defense actually did well for most of this game, flying to the football and making life hard on Lamar Jackson, but New York was done in by its anemic offensive performance.

With Zach Wilson out until Week 4 with a knee injury, veteran Joe Flacco was expected to make the Jets more competitive thanks to an improved supporting cast. The end result wasn’t pretty as Flacco struggled to move the Jets’ offense, which scored just nine points in a 24-9 waxing by the Ravens.

An ill-timed interception in the first quarter short-circuited a promising drive while Flacco’s statue-esque performance in the pocket led to plenty of sacks and quarterback hits. The offensive line did Flacco no favors as they struggled with Baltimore’s pass rush all day but his lack of mobility is not a good fit with Mike LaFleur’s preferred up-tempo pace.

The Jets should consider making a switch to Mike White, who notably led the Jets to an upset win over the Bengals last season, ahead of their Week 2 matchup with the Cleveland Browns. White is a more mobile quarterback than Flacco, which should help buy the offense more time if the line continues to struggle in pass protection.
