Ravens 2022 season starts much like the last: Wins and brutal injury luck
By Scott Rogust
The Baltimore Ravens may have won their season opener, but they have already lost two starters for the year.
The Baltimore Ravens were decimated by injuries in 2021, causing them to finish in last place in the AFC North. The hope was that the injuries would be put behind them ad have a healthy 2022. After Week 1, they have already lost two starters for the season.
In the team’s Week 1 game against the New York Jets, offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James had to be carted off the field with an Achilles injury, and cornerback Kyle Fuller had to be helped off the field after clutching his left knee.
On Monday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh announced that James tore his left Achilles tendon and is done for the season. The bad news continued, as Fuller is also done for the year after tearing his ACL.
Ravens lose Kyle Fuller, Ja’Wuan James for season with injuries
Sadly, the injury bug continues to hit James. Just last year, he tore the exact same Achilles tendon prior to the 2021 season for Baltimore Now, he has suffered the same exact injury in Week 1 and is now sidelined.
Losing James for the season hurts Baltimore’s depth at left tackle. He received the start against the Jets after they ruled out Ronnie Stanley, as he recovers from an ankle injury.
As for Fuller, he just signed with the Ravens this offseason after spending the 2021 season with the Denver Broncos. In the Jets game, Fuller recorded three combined tackles
The Ravens did cruise to a 24-9 win over the Jets behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Lamar Jackson, two of which went to receiver Devin Duvernay.
Now, the Ravens will look to overcome these injuries and get a win in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins, who defeated the New England Patriots 20-7.
