Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is under scrutiny for helping defraud the government for the construction of a volleyball stadium for him. The funding came from welfare money, which took away from the nation’s residents in need of financial help. Many people are taking their thoughts to Twitter and believe Favre should be thrown in prison for his actions.
According to a report from Mississippi Today, Favre and former Governor Phil Bryant worked together to scheme for the stadium.
Text messages from Bryant to nonprofit founder Nancy New revealed Bryant’s involvement, despite him denying it. The texts read, “Just left Brett Favre. Can we help him with his project. We should meet soon to see how I can make sure we keep your projects on course.”
Favre also reportedly asked how the new director may impact their funding plans, to which Bryant responded, “I will handle that… long story but had to make a change. But I will call Nancy and see what it will take.”
Many believe Favre’s actions were unacceptable, as they took away from people who actually needed money to survive.
Twitter reacts to former NFL QB Brett Favre’s welfare scandal
One common theme across Twitter is that Favre’s actions should send him to jail. One user wrote, “I’d ask Brett Favre how he sleeps at night, but the answer is obvious: in a 7×10 cell.”
Another wrote, “Brett Favre should go to jail. Restitution is only part of the sentence.”
One other user stated, “Prison time is in order for gov. bryant, brett favre and et al. A trial of course precedes prison time.”
Here are more reactions that echo the same sentiment.
There’s yet to be a trial and it’s unknown what consequences Favre will face, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he did face jail time.
