Unfortunately, Elijah Mitchell suffered a knee injury in the second half of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

According to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports, Mitchell left the locker room with a “substantial” brace on his right leg.

The extent of Mitchell’s injury is unknown, but on the outside looking in, it does not look good.

Following Mitchell’s exit, Wilson was the clear leader of the 49ers’ backfield. He finished with nine carries for 22 yards, and he had two receptions for eight yards.

If Mitchell, in fact, does miss time, Wilson will carry significant value as the lead back in the 49ers’ offense.

2022 third-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price could play a role, as well. Davis-Price was a standout running back at LSU, where he rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior.

However, Davis-Price does not appear to be a large immediate threat to Wilson’s workload, as he was inactive in the 49ers’ season opener (coach’s decision). Even if he is active next week, Wilson is clearly ahead of him on the depth chart.

In Week 2, Wilson will have a prime matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
