Packers bold predictions: 4. Christian Watson will catch a 40+ yard pass

Watson had a forgettable pro debut that was largely dominated by his horrible drop of a potential 75-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers. He’s not going to be the most consistent receiver for Green Bay this year but look for Rodgers to target him on a couple of deep passes this week to restore his confidence.

Part of the game plan for Green Bay is going to be loosening up the Chicago secondary by taking a few shots over the top. Hitting one of those balls to Watson can really open things up for the Packers’ ground game as the game rolls along.

While Watson dropping the big pass last week was a massive error, it shouldn’t be ignored that he also got behind the secondary with relative ease. He’s a smooth runner with top-end speed who can really trouble Chicago’s safeties.

Green Bay fans shouldn’t expect Watson to post a huge stat line, but he’s going to hit one big play to start to make up for last week’s failure. The talented rookie might even find the end zone for a receiving corps that desperately needs to improve its play in Week 2. At the minimum, he’ll hit one catch for 40 yards or more.
