2. Cal over Notre Dame

It’s funny enough that Marcus Freeman is winless in three games as Notre Dame’s head coach after all the positive vibes emanating from the program after Brian Kelly’s departure. Making it 4-0 would be unbelievable.

Losing the bowl game to Oklahoma was understandable given all the weird circumstances around that game. Losing to Ohio State, even challenging them more than expected, was full of silver linings. Then losing to Marshall? Yikes.

Cal isn’t exactly a power program at the moment. Notre Dame has a longstanding rivalry with USC and a pretty steady one with Stanford. The Bears have no business getting one over on the Irish.

That’s exactly why it would be so comical.

Who would have imagined Notre Dame would have to be thinking about Freeman’s buyout by September?

College football is better when programs like Notre Dame are great. If they’re not going to be great, then college football is better when literally everything goes wrong for a blue blood.
