The New York Mets have been very good this year and they have changed a lot of things about the club in recent years, including turning over much of their roster, hiring Buck Showalter as their manager, and, of course, getting a new owner … but they are still the Mets.

They have a few injuries that are big ones. Outfielder Starling Marte is on the injured list. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer is on a rehab assignment after being placed on the IL at the beginning of September.

Buck Showalter also doesn’t exactly have sterling success as a manager in the postseason. In parts of 20 seasons as an MLB manager before this season, he has been to the League Championship Series once and has yet to even win a game in the LCS.

The Mets also haven’t been to the postseason since 2016. Teams that are relative novices in the postseason usually end up getting dispatched in the postseason. In fact, since 2006, there are only two teams that won the World Series that didn’t make the postseason in either of the two years prior to winning: the 2010 San Francisco Giants and the 2013 Boston Red Sox.
